We are so excited to announce that Mrs. Lindsay Jensen has joined our faculty as an Academic Assistant! You might recognize her as she’s been a very active Parent Ambassador and volunteer. Also, the past nine years she’s had the absolute blessing and privilege of being a stay at home mom and homemaker. She and her family attend Cornerstone Bible Church.
We caught up with Mrs. Jensen in order to help the community learn more about her. We hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better though her answers.
1) Are you married? Kids?
Yes, my husband Jake and I have been married for 11 years and together we have 3 wonderful children. All of them will be attending CDA this fall. Abigail is 8 and will be in 2nd grade. Naomi is 6 and will be in Kindergarten. Luke is 4 and will be in the 3-day Jr. Kindergarten class. This is our family’s forth year at CDA.
2) Where did you go to school?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University as well as a Master’s degree in Youth Development and Agricultural Education from Purdue University.
3) What is your favorite snack or treat?
Homemade salsa and chips
4) What gets you up in the morning?
The thing that gets me up in the morning is fresh opportunity to marvel in the world God created and use my God given talents to bless others and glorify God.
5) What are your favorite hobbies?
I have so many! I love to garden, work on home improvement projects, decorate my home, read, and be active outdoors with my family.
6) What is your favorite book and why?
Besides the Bible, the book that has impacted me the most is an old book titled The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer. It totally transformed the way I viewed my calling and vocation as a homemaker. I usually revisit it each year as I set my goals and decide which projects I want to prioritize in our home. A close second would be What is a Family? also by Edith Schaeffer.
7) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?
I have lived in Indiana most of my life (with the exception of one year in Atlanta, GA right after graduation and one year in Boise, ID the first year of marriage). I love that we get all four seasons and the people are what keep me here.
8) Describe a meaningful event in your life and God’s role in that event.
My husband and I moved to Boise, ID right after we got married for my husband’s veterinary internship. We moved into an apartment we hadn’t had the chance to see in person before moving (it was rough). It was very far from home and we didn’t know a single other soul. When we passed the state line from Wyoming to Idaho, we came across a gas station that had a donkey tied up out front and a sign stating how proud Idahoans are of their tumbleweed and I remember thinking to myself “Where in the world are we moving to and what have we gotten ourselves into?” It was a difficult year in a lot of ways but God used that year to grow Jake and I closer as a couple and closer to Him and for that I am thankful.
9) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?
I would love to spend the day with Caroline Wilder (Ma, from Little House on the Prairie). Whenever I have been tempted to complain about my homemaking duties, I often think to myself “How did Ma do this without _____?” I am fascinated that she grew/helped raise all of their food, sewed their clothing, hand washed and line dried their clothing, made all of their meals from scratch, etc. I would love to ask her about how she prioritized her time to get it all done and if she ever got weary from the mundane tasks. Studying women in the past like this reminds me how blessed I really am!
10) What would we be surprised to learn about you?
I was a 10 year member in 4-H growing up and I showed sheep and goats (among many other things). I even taught my goats how to do tricks! 4-H gave me so many unique life skills that I still use to this day! (Except for the goat training, I surprisingly don’t use that skill anymore.)
