We are pleased to introduce our new Upper School Humanities Teacher and Development Coordinator, Mrs. Lindsay Pattison! She has returned to us from a stint in New Hampshire where she recently sought to plant a Classical Christian school. Before her oldest was born, she taught 11th grade American Literature, both general and advanced classes, in the Upper Valley of Vermont. During her time there, she was the National Honor Society advisor and also created a Food Shelf to support the students who lacked food security. “Providing for them was an absolute joy!” Mrs. Pattison and her family attend College Park Church.
We caught up with Mrs. Pattison in order to help the community learn more about her. We hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better though her answers.
1) Are you married? Kids?
I have been married for 15 years to my husband, Erik. We have two boys, Everett and Jesse, who keep us on our toes with their curiosity and zest for life.
2) Where did you go to school?
I graduated from IUPUI with a B.S. in Secondary English Education. I also hold an MA from Moody Theological Seminary in Ministry Studies with a focus on Ministry Entrepreneurship.
3) What is your favorite snack or treat?
If you ask my children, they’d probably tell you Skittles. (Skittles and I developed a very close relationship in undergrad when I would reward myself for every 10 minutes that I studied Biology and actually retained information). If you ask my husband, he’d likely tell you cheesecake. If you find me snacking, I’m generally eating fruit or cucumbers with Vermont cheddar.
4) What gets you up in the morning?
My alarm wakes up, but the promise and smell of the “auto brew” actually motivates me to get out of bed. My morning ritual is coffee and Bible, then I head to our basement for a good Crossfit-style workout!
5) What are your favorite hobbies?
I’m an outside gal. I love to hike, jog, walk with my doodle, or encourage my boys in their outdoor adventures. I also really enjoy cooking. My husband would love for me to cook the same recipe twice, but it never happens because I don’t use recipes (sorry, Erik!).
6) What is your favorite book and why?
I was anticipating this question, yet I still don’t have an answer. I gravitate toward historical fiction.
7) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?
I’m a native Hoosier! My husband and I were both born and raised in Kokomo. We spent over a decade in the rural Northeast, having initially moved there for Erik to complete his residency. Now that we are back to our Midwestern roots, I have been enjoying the sweetness of Hoosier hospitality and raising our boys around family and friends that treat us like family. (Including the grocery store clerk I just met this morning.)
8) Describe a meaningful event in your life and God’s role in that event.
While living in New Hampshire, my boys waded into the water of Lake Spofford at our lake spot to be baptized together. I can’t think of a greater blessing than to see them declare their love for Jesus and commitment to following Him!
9) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?
Fred Rogers. I wish I could sit down for a coffee with him and talk about life, ministry, innovation, and education.
10) What would we be surprised to learn about you?
I’m one of those people who brakes for squirrels. Also… turtles. I have twice stopped traffic to help a turtle cross the road.
