New Faculty Interview: Garrett Thomas

We are pleased to introduce our new Upper School Math and Science Instructor, Mr. Thomas! Prior to coming to CDA he worked for Leach & Sons Water Systems. He and his family attend Holy Cross Anglican Mission Church.

We caught up with Mr. Thomas in order to help the community learn more about him. We hope you enjoy getting to know him a bit better though his answers.

1) Are you married? Kids?

Yes; 1 boy, Wesley – 3 years old

2) Where did you go to school?

Ozark Christian College

3) What is your favorite snack or treat?

Old fashioned hard candy – especially horehound or butterscotch

4) What gets you up in the morning?

The Book of Common Prayer and tea in the quiet hours

5) What are your favorite hobbies?

Playing Lego games or riding bikes with my son, making tea, learning new languages, reading & writing poetry, and martial arts

6) What is your favorite book and why?

Galahad & the Grail by Malcolm Guite – a book-length ballad about Arthuriana, with more expected in the next few years is about all I will want for Christmas.

7) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?

2 years as of Aug. 1; I have most enjoyed the people I have met

8) Describe a meaningful event in your life and God’s role in that event.

Meeting and courting my bride. I had intended to serve an international internship, but Covid prevented me from going abroad, which gave me the entire summer to get acquainted with my future wife through letters. Had that summer been spent abroad, I think I would never have looked back. In the words of Garth Brooks, “Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.”

9) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?

Moses – “God spoke with Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend”

10) What would we be surprised to learn about you?

I trained a blind man in the martial arts to break boards he could not see.
