New Faculty Interview- Danielle Hodges

1) Are you married? Kids?
Yes, I have been married to Kyle since 2017. We have 4 children: Ruth (5), Mark (3), Beth (2) and Paul
(2).

2) Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Science, Technology and Society, where I also played
softball as a DH and catcher.

3) What gets you up in the morning?
My alarm song, “In Christ Alone” and a large cup of ice coffee. I get excited to spend some quiet time
with the Lord and prepare for the day. I am always eager to see what the day ahead will hold. With our
young kiddos, you never truly know what they’ll say or the shenanigans they’ll get into.

4) What are your favorite hobbies?
I honestly just enjoy spending time with our family. I cannot think of anything better than seeing the joy
in my littles, whether they are playing with balloons, running in circles, battling animals, dancing or
reading books.

5) What is one of your hidden talents?
I would probably say multi-tasking. From a young age, I have always had to balance a busy life and
prioritize. I thoroughly enjoy and thrive with organization and planning.

6) What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. This book made a significant impact on my heart
posture and walk with Christ. I appreciated and ultimately needed the reminder of how amazing and big
our God is and the challenge to us as readers to think more of Him and less of us. I had and still have
struggles being “lukewarm” and I welcome the prompt to be more on fire for Christ.

7) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?
I grew up and attended school on the southeast side of Indy. I just left for college, but I realized pretty
quickly that I loved and missed Indiana. I needed to be close to family, and I wanted to have my life
here. We have a great Scripture-based church with a fantastic children’s ministry, our parents live close
by, and we absolutely love CDA.

8) What meaningful event in your past significantly influenced your life?
I would say there were 2 times in my life where I truly felt God the most. The first was during my college
years. It was here that I had all my dreams and ideas for my life collapse. I had complications with knee
surgeries that sidelined my softball career, I needed to change majors and career plans after my initial

goals didn’t pan out, and my family completely split. I reached a hopeless place where I felt God pull on
my heart and re-ignite my desire to pursue Him and His word. After diving into Scripture and prayer
more, I found a fantastic church and small group that were the best to grow my faith and ultimately
where I met some of my dearest friends and my husband Kyle.

Another time in my life that I felt God speak was when I was seeking where God wanted me to serve
Him. I had a very clear prompting to help lead our Human Trafficking ministry at our previous church.
Through this ministry opportunity, I was blessed to travel domestically and internationally to visit the
safe houses and prevention programs through various organizations and see how Christ was redeeming
and saving the lives of these little girls who had been enslaved.

9) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?
I would love to spend the day with Wilma Rudolph. Between being the 20th child in her family, to
wearing braces on her legs until she was 12, to her Olympic gold athletic track career, I would love to
just listen to her story. She was one of the most outspoken Christian female athletes, coaches, and
educators.

10) What would we be surprised to learn about you?
Though I have literally no musical talent, music is such an important part of my life. I listened to the
WoW CDs growing up as a kid and some of my favorite songs to this day are from those CDs. “Cartoons,”
“Redeemer,” and “Shackles” are still in my playlists.

I also enjoy watching Bluey pretty much just as much as my kids do.
