New Faculty Interview: Christine Szymczak

We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Christine Szymczak has joined our faculty as one of our Junior Kindergarten teachers! You may have seen her around CDA already as she has been an academic assistant, subbing as needed, and working with teachers. Prior to her working at CDA, she has taught in a variety of preschools and elementary schools over the last 15 years. She and her family attend Pennington Park Church.

We caught up with Mrs. Szymczak in order to help the community learn more about her. We hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better though her answers.

1) Are you married? Kids?

My husband Will and I have been married for 19yrs and we have 3 lovely daughters. Clara and Ruby are 8 and in 2nd grade, and Esther is 4 and is joining her sisters this year at CDA in Jr. Kindergarten.

2) Where did you go to school?

I went to Indiana Wesleyan University and received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.

3) What is your favorite snack or treat?

I definitely have a sweet tooth and I enjoy many sweets. I especially love almond flavored cupcakes and a tart lemon bar.

4) What gets you up in the morning?

It’s difficult to wake me in the morning! I hit the snooze button MANY times. This difficulty in waking is the first of many reminders that I need Christ to be in everything I do throughout the day. I consistently recognize the value in the lyrics “yet not I, but through Christ in me.” Each day I look forward to identifying opportunities where I can serve others and show his love to them.

5) What are your favorite hobbies?

I don’t have much time for hobbies, but if I find the time, I love to bake cookies and decorate cakes.

6) What is your favorite book and why?

I love Louisa May Alcott’s story Little Women. I love the interactions between the sisters and they way they each take a role to support their family in a challenging time. The story has taken on new meaning for me since I have now have three “little women.”

7) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?

After spending our first years of marriage in West Palm Beach, FL, we were looking for a smaller, midwest, hometown feel. We I moved to Fishers in February 2008. We we chose this area because we both went to Indiana Wesleyan University and enjoyed the Noblesville/Fishers/Castleton area during college. Indiana was also a nice middle ground between our families from Michigan and Ohio.

8) Describe a meaningful event in your life and God’s role in that event.

I am blessed to have experienced God’s hand of faithfulness countless times. Though I love the quiet, tender moments with my daughters when they understand and articulate truth from Gods word or theological concepts that are difficult for many adults.

9) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?

I would love to spend the day with the forefathers in who wrote the constitution.

10) What would we be surprised to learn about you?

Most people are surprised to learn that I do NOT like coffee or coffee beverages, hot or cold, or any coffee flavored anything!
