New Faculty Interview- Carissa Rusk

We caught up with one of our new Academic Assistants, Carissa Rusk, in order to help the community learn more about her.

1) Are you married? Kids?

I’m unmarried and childless. Not much really to say here.

2) Where did you go to school?

I went to school at Boyce College, which is the undergraduate of the Southern Baptist
Seminary. I got my BS in Humanities with a built in minor in Theology.

3) What gets you up in the morning?

Knowing that God has placed me here and now for his specific purposes gets me up. It doesn’t matter if the day goes well or not, since he is always in control and will use whatever happens for his purposes.

4) What are your favorite hobbies?

My favorite hobbies are writing fiction, knitting, painting, and hiking. I also like writing some non-fiction and speculating on methods of thought and writing.

5) What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book, apart from the books of the Bible, is 1984 by George Orwell because his views on language and thought control are very intriguing. There is a lot that can be learned from early 20th century dystopian fiction that directly correlates with current events.

6) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?

I was born and raised in Indiana, and I love the homey feel that Indiana has. I like driving through the countryside and seeing farmland and cornfields, as there is something peaceful about it.

7) Describe a meaningful event in your life and God’s role in that event.

A meaningful event that happened in my life was getting the college experience, since God has used that to find friends and shape my worldview. If it weren’t for some of the people God brought into my life I wouldn’t be where I’m at today.

8) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?

I would love to spend the day with George Berkeley since his philosophical viewpoints were instrumental in shaping human thought and the field of Metaphysics.

9) What would we be surprised to learn about you?

You’d be surprised to know that I’d like to learn archery and how to hunt one day. They could be useful skills, especially with the trajectory of today’s culture.
