New Faculty Interview- Amanda Mobley

We are so excited to announce that Mrs. Amanda Mobley will be joining our faculty as 3rd Grade Teacher. She has had a varied career in teaching, including teaching 4th Grade in Lawrence Township, teaching at Heritage and at two other classical Christian educational environments in the area in 2nd-5th grades before joining the Coram Deo Academy community as a parent.

We caught up with Mrs. Mobley in order to help the community learn more about her.

1) Are you married? Kids?

I’ve been married to my husband Jon for 10 years and we have 3 kids (Caleb – 3rd grade, Levi- Kindergarten, Bella- 3 years old).

2) Where did you go to school?

I attended Indiana University and received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Music Minor.

3) What gets you up in the morning?

The joy of getting to know, care for and grow alongside others is a source of great motivation for me. I enjoy learning new things and strengthening my mind, body and spirit through worship and movement.

4) What are your favorite hobbies?

My favorite hobbies are dancing, reading, game nights, trying new recipes, exploring new places, and anything to do with music. I like to challenge myself to learn new things to show my kids that they are always able to learn. Mrs. Kilmer says it best- “Learning is HARD and FUN!” Some new things I’ve learned this year include embroidery and taking voice and ballroom dancing lessons.

5) What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book of the Bible is a toss up between Romans and John. The conviction and depth of wisdom, truth and love in both of those texts changed the way I see my time here on earth. A life of getting to know and love the person of Jesus, and sharing that with others is a life well spent. My favorite classic book is The Count of Monte Cristo. I also enjoy anything by John Piper, N.T Wright and Lisa Bevere.

6) How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?

I’m a born and bred Hoosier girl! I grew up in “the Region” for most of my young life and moved to Carmel at the beginning of high school. I’ve traveled to and lived in different states and even countries for several months…but Indiana is always home. The midwest hospitality and family traditions that have been passed down to me give me a sense of peace and connection to my extended family.

7) Describe a meaningful event in your life and God’s role in that event.

A meaningful event in my life was being able to trust God and draw near to Him after a life-threatening medical event. To know the danger I was in and to see God’s protection over the unknown for weeks before and after showed me His great love and attention to detail in my life.

8) What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?

I would love to spend a day with Moses’ sister, Miriam. I’m amazed by the trust she had to obey her mother’s instructions to follow him down the river and the bravery to speak to royalty. To have the wisdom to suggest their mother to care for Moses so she could be with him longer. The courage and humility to wait for the Lord to raise up Moses to lead the people out of slavery. Finally, the joy and celebration she gave to the Lord to lead the people in worship when they were delivered!

9) What would we be surprised to learn about you?

I absolutely LOVE snow! Growing up near Lake Michigan, I experienced some major snow storms and our family was always outside sledding, ice skating and building snow forts. Most people I meet in Indianapolis are not big snow fans!
