CDA’s Soccer Club- by Clara Vasey

Every day at recess, there is a committed group of students on the CDA soccer field working together to win the game and make friendships along the way. Playing soccer has become so beloved by the Coram Deo lower school that this year there was an official soccer club.

Coached by CDA dads John Lehman and Josh Schreiner, the club was an enormous success. It drew almost thirty students to the soccer field every Thursday after school until it ended on October 24th .

The students would flock to the CDA field for drills and instruction. After learning a new skill every week, they scrimmaged. This was an overall favorite because the players not only improved but also had real referees for their game. After eight weeks of club both coaches and players recognized great growth in soccer and sportsmanship.

Looking back over the season, Coach Lehman said, “My favorite part has been seeing the players develop, both in their skills and as individuals. Watching them grow in confidence, build friendships, and learn valuable team skills has been incredibly rewarding.”

This club would not be possible without CDA’s strong community. Mr. Lehman, and Mr. Schreiner who volunteered to coach because they love soccer and students. Coach Lehman said, “…soccer is a beautiful game that combines strategy, teamwork, and individual skill. It is accessible to everyone, and I love how it brings people together.”

Soccer has indeed brought people together at CDA. The comradery on the field is obvious through their sportsmanship and smiles. Many of the players say that the best part of the club was growing with their friends. The coaches would also like to thank the network of CDA parents that supported the growth of their athletes.

Both coaches and athletes are optimistic about repeating the club next year, and it is unanimous that CDA would make an excellent soccer team. In the words of Mason Middlesworth, a Coram Deo kindergartener and soccer enthusiast, “Yeah, we would be so good!”
