dual credit - upper school

CDA’s Upper School is now partnering with Christian Halls International to offer college credit to 10th-12th graders. We’ve always known that our challenging liberal arts and Great Books curriculum was at a collegiate level. Christian Halls International, an organization devoted to Christ-centered, tutorial-based education, has been developing partnerships with colleges to offer dual credit options to classical Christian schools like Coram Deo.

How Does It Work?

Many dual credit courses rely on online platforms or teachers with very specific master’s degrees. Christian Halls Internal does provide these opportunities for students as well. But CHI is unique in providing assessment-based courses that integrate with our classical curriculum. For the purposes of college credit, CDA students will complete their normal courses, like Omnibus, Logic, Rhetoric, Math or Science. These courses will then be linked up through CHI with one of their partner Colleges, like Southeastern University, a Christian liberal arts college in Florida. A professor at Southeastern will grade select assessments that we will have worked into the normal assignments of the course. Our teachers will serve as “tutors,” helping ensure students are prepared to complete these assignments at a collegiate level.

Benefits

Through partnering with CHI, CDA Upper School students will be able to graduate high school with a significant number of college credits. CHI is currently working with ACCS accredited schools like CDA to create a pathway to graduating with an Associates Degree, knocking two years off of a costly college experience, and giving students recognition for the advanced track they are on in their classical Christian educational experience. In addition, CHI has opportunities for further study, including the completion of a Bachelor of Arts in the Great Texts of the Christian Tradition. As a Christian Hall, CDA could provide these opportunities for students to launch them faster and farther in their higher education experience than would otherwise be possible.
