Last week we shared the exciting news that we hired Vince Cutrona as Upper School teacher.
Mr. Vince Cutrona previously served as the Upper School Dean of Students and Humanities teacher at Highlands Latin School of Indianapolis. He embodies our core virtues of agape (intentional care), arete (purposeful excellence), and fortitudo (skillful courage), and aligns well with Coram Deo Academy’s philosophy of classical Christian education. He received his BA from Calvin College with a double major in History and Greek, as well as his MDiv from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Mr. Cutrona has the heart of a pastor and a deep well of knowledge for teaching.
We caught up with Mr. Cutrona to learn more about him in an interview format.
1. Are you married?
Yes, my wife, Kearstin and I have been married now for a little over 4 years. We have called Indianapolis home for all that time. She is an enthusiastic adventurer and we enjoy exploring the outdoors together. We do not yet have any children.
2. Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Calvin College with a BA in both History and Greek. I went on to complete a MDiv from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
3. What gets you up in the morning?
Coffee and devotions are a tremendous boost to my morning. I look forward to participating in what the Lord is up to today.
4. What are your favorite hobbies?
I really enjoy grilling, running, and reading. My library is full of history, philosophy, and theology books. When I have time I pick up a pen and write as well.
5. What is one of your hidden talents?
I won’t claim to be exceptional at this, but I like making homemade bread. My grandmother was kind enough to share her recipe.
6. What is your favorite book and why?
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien is my favorite book. I have read it countless times, and still own the paperback I bought 20 years ago. I enjoy the character development Bilbo experiences while he is being pushed further and further from home. Over the years the story has continued to give me perspective. I cannot recommend the movie adaptations though.
7. How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?
I grew up in northern Indiana and then went to college and graduate school. I moved back to Indiana after seminary. In total I have lived in Indiana for 24 years. I enjoy Indiana most for the family and friends I have that live here too.
8. What meaningful event in your past significantly influenced your life?
I have had the opportunity to travel extensively in my life. While in college I spent an entire semester in Israel. I lived in Jerusalem and toured the entire country in a little over 3 months. My semester included touring Petra, in Jordan, and the Egyptian Nile. That semester fueled my passion for history and the Church. I vividly remember the meal and sermon I received while on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.
9. What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?
I would like to spend a day with Clemens von Metternich. He was an Austrian diplomat during the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was often against Napoleon, but could not always be openly hostile to the tyrant. I would enjoy listening to his political wit and wisdom.
