Mrs. Jaima Kinsler is joining the Coram Deo Academy faculty this year as one of our new 1st grade teachers. Jaima Kinsler has taught for 17 years in Kindergarten through 2nd grade positions in Texas, Indianapolis Public Schools and Westfield Washington Schools. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2015-2016 and has served as grade-level team leader. She is so excited for the chance to fully integrate her Christian faith and work at a school with a classical teaching philosophy. We caught up with her in an interview format to help the community get to know her and her family better.
1. Are you married?
My husband Chad and I have been married for 13 years, 14 years in August. We have two sons: Austin is 10 and will be in 5th grade and Andrew is 8 and will be in 3rd grade. They will be starting at CDA in August along with me!
2. Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I taught in Austin, TX for 4 years before moving back to IN and teaching at Geist Montessori Academy, Indianapolis Public Schools, and most recently in Westfield at Shamrock Springs Elementary.
3. What gets you up in the morning?
I love to wake up early, have my coffee, read and study my Bible, then do a workout all before anyone else is awake!
4. What are your favorite hobbies?
I love reading on my back patio, hiking (especially in Colorado), baking, going for long walks with my family, and just being outside.
5. What is one of your hidden talents?
I am pretty good at rollerblading and love going on long rides with my boys!
6. What is your favorite book and why?
I don’t think I have a “favorite” book! I love so many children’s books and have hundreds of them! My boys and I are enjoying the Imagination Station series together right now!
7. How long have you lived in Indiana and why do you enjoy living here?
I was born in Indiana, then moved to Austin, TX after graduating from IU, met my husband, and moved back to IN to start our family! I love living close to our families and Spring, Summer, and Fall!
8. What meaningful event in your past significantly influenced your life?
My mom went to be with Jesus 8 years ago when my boys were just 1 ½ and 2 months old. Aside from my husband, she was my best friend and biggest cheerleader. We talked everyday about meaningful things or just day to day happenings. She passed away just 4 short months after being diagnosed with cancer. Through all of it, my dad’s faith remained unshaken and he was such a good role model for our family. I learned from him to trust God with EVERYTHING and take EVERYTHING to Him, even my anger, sadness, and ugly tears. I’ve learned to not lean on my own understanding, but trust our Heavenly Father with it all! I know to not take a single day for granted!
9. What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?
If I had a day to spend with a historical figure, it would be Jesus! Following him and learning from him would be so amazing!
10. What would we be surprised to learn about you?
I was a cheerleader and gymnast and can still do some jumps and flips on our backyard trampoline!
