We’re so excited to welcome Ms. Betsy Richmann to Coram Deo Academy next year. Many in our community know Betsy Richmann from her work as a student-teacher through Taylor’s education department with Mrs. Warman in 3rd grade this last winter. Mr. Barney knows Ms. Richmann from Clapham School, where Ms. Richmann received a classical Christian education until 8th grade and where Mr. Barney served as teacher and Academic Dean.

Betsy Richmann will serve as 6th Grade Instructor next year, as well as GuildMaster for the Actors Guild, as we add an Upper School play in the Fall and continue the Shakespeare play for all 7th graders. We caught up with her to learn more about her through an interview format!

1. Where did you go to school?

I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Taylor University with an endorsement in English and Language Arts.

2. What are your favorite hobbies?

In my free time, I love spending time with friends, curling up with a good book, cooking and traveling!

3. What is one of your hidden talents?

I did theater for several years and thanks to my theater experience, I can speak in British, Scottish and Irish accents!

4. What is your favorite book?

My favorite book is Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott. I first experienced it as a read aloud in elementary school and have read it countless times since then. It taught me a lot about growing up and doing life with others, and I seem to take something new away from it every time I pick it up.

5. How long have you lived in Indiana?

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and moved to Indiana to attend Taylor University in 2018.

6. What meaningful event in your past significantly influenced your life?

As a Sophomore in college, I took a “Literary London” trip traveling around England and Scotland while studying literary works that had been shaped by these places. This trip expanded my worldview, broadening my view of history and literature.

What’s more, God clearly met me in particular ways on this trip that taught me more about him and drew me closer to himself.

7. What historical figure would you like to spend a day with?

I would love to spend a day with Jane Austen! The more I learn about her life and work, the more I want to learn. Her literary characters fascinate me and her work as a storyteller inspires me. I got to walk in her footsteps a bit during my trip to London and that was one of the highlights of my time there!
